Privacy Policy

The short version: Roughly collects nothing. It reads web pages on your device to find prices, and what you browse never leaves it. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking.
Turquoise Hexagon Cybernetics LTD ("us", "we" or "our") makes the Roughly: Currency Converter app and Safari extension for iPhone, iPad and Mac (the "App"). This page explains what the App does with your data, which is almost nothing.
What we collect
Nothing. The App does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any personal data. That includes:
- Personal information such as your name, email address or contact details.
- Usage data such as device information, app usage statistics or crash reports.
- Your browsing: the websites you visit, the pages you read and the prices on them.
We operate no servers for the App, and it contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code.
Website access
To show prices in your currency, the extension has to read and change the text of the web pages you open. Safari asks for your permission first, and you can allow it on all websites or only some of them, or withdraw it at any time in Safari's settings.
All of this happens on your device. The extension looks for prices in the page's text, works out what they are in your currency and writes the result back into the page you're looking at. It doesn't send the page, its address or any of its text anywhere, and it keeps no history of where you've been.
It skips anything you can type in, such as search boxes and forms.
Exchange rates
This is the App's only network request. To stay up to date, the App downloads exchange rates from Frankfurter, an independent service at api.frankfurter.dev, about twice a day.
The request asks for the current rates and nothing else. It says nothing about you, your home currency, or the websites or prices you've looked at, and everyone using the App requests the same rates. As with any request on the internet, Frankfurter's servers can see the IP address it comes from and basic details of the software making it. We don't run that service and receive nothing from it about you.
What stays on your device
The App keeps these on your device using Apple's standard storage:
- Your home currency, how you've chosen to show prices, and whether converting is turned on.
- The websites you've turned Roughly off for, so it can keep leaving them alone.
- The latest exchange rates, and when they were last checked.
None of this leaves your device. Deleting the App removes all of it.
The App Store
You get the App from Apple's App Store, which Apple Inc. runs. Apple may process data about your download and purchase under its own privacy policy, which applies alongside this one. We don't receive personal data from Apple beyond the anonymous, aggregated sales and usage reports Apple gives all developers.
- Apple App Store: Apple Inc., One Apple Park Way, Cupertino, CA 95014, USA. Apple's privacy policy.
Children
The App collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you write to us, we'll use your email only to reply.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, for example because a future version adds a feature that needs data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version is released.
